Actually both my mice are flaky. I have the original Intellimouse Explorer and a genius Netscroll Optical and both of them (one USB, the other ps2) act erratically when I try to point and click on icons on the screen. The optical mouse needs AA. Which gives it a quite heavy, solid feel. NiMh AAA batteries have a capacity of about 550mAh (at least the ones in front of me for my IR headphones do).
