... like most common serial mice use. I dont know how I made such a rookie mistake. Now that that is clarified, is it still possible to use a connector to enable this optical mouse for his machine? I seriously doubt it. As I said before, as far as I know, USB optical mice aren't adaptable to serial COM ports.

I dont think Optical mice have batteries! Well mine doesn't. From what I can see. I did have the same prob (I have the MS Optical Wheel mouse) which is PS/2 and USB. I found out, that if you use the PS/2 connection (an adapter), and turn off the computer, as Deb noticed the mouse won't turn off!

USB Optical Mice
For Logitech to get optical, I bet that this is a completely new, designed from scratch mouse. In fact, I heard several cases under BeOS where some optical mice do not power up with Be's USB implementation (which is extremely buggy, I should add). The Logitech Trackman Marble wheel works just fine via USB.

On a hunch I disconnected the USB connector from the port and re-connected it. The mouse became functional. So whether it is the cord or not, something happens to cause the USB mouse I have been using optical mice with 4.1 since they came out and on several different machines and I have not had this problem.

USB optical mouse doesn't initialize at startup
All of my 9 PCs use USB optical mice and 6 of those systems run Liunx. The one system I tried WinXP on crashed on install evry single time until I physically disconnected the Epson 440 printer from the PC....and then it would install. Linux does as good a job, if not better, at identifying hardware than WinXP.
